Sharron Styman

Sharron has been coming to Minerva for 18 years…

As a child, Sharron was fond of drama but as she got older her creative pursuits turned to art and design which has been inspired and encouraged by the resources provided by Minerva since she began classes in 2005.

In 2011, when Minerva was situated at St. Camillus and was looking to relocate to new premises, its current residency, on Hallstile Bank, became available to rent. However, due to its prime location it was highly sought after. When the manager, Margaret, had an appointment with the estate agent, Sharron asked to accompany her. During this meeting, Sharron tipped the balance in sealing a rent agreement by passionately explaining why she believes Hallstile Bank to be an ideal workplace for Minerva’s students with it being easily accessible.

In 2015, Sharron exhibited her art-work at Newcastle college and gained level 6 in Design.Print.Sell, an NVQ level 3 equivalence.

Sharron’s creative dedication and passion for art has opened doors of great accomplishments over the years. Specialising in tapestry and latch hook rug weaving, she has made and sold numerous textile designs for Minerva comprising of cushions, bags, rugs, tapestries and dolls.

Admired for her focus on completing her vision; Sharron’s art follows the seasons and is inspired by her love of cats and traditional celebrations. Sharron attends classes three days a week aspiring to complete her works in tapestry and latch hook rugs to sell; she also enjoys contributing to the community by making art displays for local shop windows and props for theatre groups.
