Over the last sixteen years, every year, a group of children from Belarus have visited the Hexham area for three weeks during June and July.
They are from an area of Belarus that was badly affected by the radiation that was produced by the Chernobyl nuclear power plant explosion in April 1986. The area is still affected by that event and will be for many generations.
This year a group of six visited the Minerva Centre on three occasions and worked with decoupage, leather and made kites. There was also a story teller, Elizabeth Thomas from Barefoot Books and a reception on Friday 26 June where the children sang traditional songs.
